The Secret to Our Success?
|
Autumn Mist Alpaca Farm was first started in 2003 when Jeff came home with some alpacas. Leslie wondered what they were! Within a week they were hooked and the herd was formed. With 4 daughters and shearing time approaching the decision was made to add a fiber processing mill to the farm. In 2007 the last daughter joined the family and the farm and fiber mill were getting to be too much for Leslie to run alone. In 2008 Jeff joined the farm and mill fulltime and with a major move a couple of hours away to be closer to family a year later..fast forward several years and here we are! The farm and Fiber Mill have grown into more then a fulltime business for not only Jeff and Leslie but a few employees also! The farm now offers short and long term boarding, birthing, several herdsires and consultation/mentoring. As the older girls all grew up, got married and started families of their own the two youngest girls Lily and Brea have also graduated from high school and are in college now!
Jeff along with running the farm and fiber mill is the current President of the Empire Alpaca Association. He really enjoys working to better the association in a team effort with keeping the growth of the alpaca industry as it evolves.
In 2025 with all the girls gone from home either in college or lives of their own and the grandchildren not old enough to really help out Jeff and Leslie sold the petting farm side of the business and are now concentrating on breeding/shows/sales and working in the fiber mill. "We aren't going anywhere anytime soon" was Jeff's response when asked about retiring.
