2023 Annual Empire Fiber Project Fleece Sort
Autumn Mist Alpaca Farm and Fiber Mill August 5th
Come learn how to sort and grade fiber based on length, micron, color for mill processing by sorting the EAA fiber donated for the 2023 run!
We'll start with a tour of the fiber processing mill explaining each step and the importance of sorting and grading.
Enjoy learning with your peers!

Why contribute fleece to the EAA Fiber Project?
With your EAA membership and donation to the fiber project you are supporting the NYS fiber industry. Additionally, you gain access to larger scale fiber processing with a return of a variety of yarn and finished products for your farm that are available to you at COST.
We will accept fiber that comes in unskirted but there is a high percentage of loss when our sorters remove the unusable fiber and debris. Contamination (mold, moths, insects and heavy vegetable matter) is the number one reason otherwise perfectly processable fiber is rejected. Donations should only include prime and second cut from the alpaca that has not been contaminated.

To participate in the Fiber Project for 2022:
1. You need to be a current EAA member in good standing;
2. Complete the Fiber Donation Form and place in each bag of fiber
- Farms that have not donated to the Fiber Project, but have a resale certificate, may purchase product at wholesale pricing.
- Farms and/or individuals that do not have a resale certificate but would like to purchase Empire products, may do so at the Retail pricing.
- New inventory showcases at The Showtacular in October, Syracuse, New York.
Your feedback and ideas are greatly appreciated.
